Pennywise - Al Bundy Bridge
We need your volunteer hours to replace the bridge at the entrance to Al Bundy's Ladies Shoe Dept Trail. You'll see with the donation button, that we could use some cash, too.
The existing bridge was built in 2018, it needs to be replaced. We have come a long way in how we do our bridges.
We spend about $500 per bridge we build, now that we are using rough cut Hemlock and Lag Screws.
*** We have applied for a grant for $250 through Extreme Terrain. ***
The club has purchased a generator in 2025, and we use the generator to charge batteries, run a hammer drill to predrill holes and more.
The goal on May 16th is to replace the existing, collapsing bridge at the Al Bundy Trail. We want a sustainable bridge that will last for years, safe enough for our 4x4 rigs, and one that will protect the wetlands boundary. (The span + 20% on each side.)
Building sustainable 4x4 trails isn't free, but we know how to do it cheap!
Our bridges here are important - but they need to be fun. They need to enhance YOUR experience while also being sustainable.
This work day will be weather dependent. We all want nice weather to get the job done. The rain date is May 23, 2026.
Please volunteer - we need worked bees and we need a photographer. Not every volunteer needs to be a bridge builder.
The Plan:
- Step 1: Remove the existing bridge
- Step 2: Salvage any hardware we can
- Step 3: Relocate the burnable materials to the cabin fire pit
- Step 4: Build a new bridge.
- New Hardware
- New rough cut hemlock
- 96" Wide (8 ft)
